I can be in my driveway and smell that the milk is bad in my refrigerator. This ability can be a gift..... good smells are absolutely life changing... and it can be a curse. The smell of dog shit is absolute torture.

On the plane ride back from Arizona yesterday a lady a few rows back did not change her child's dirty diaper for the entire ride. When I say dirty, I mean DIRTY ICKY #2. The child was probably 2 years old, so we are talking really disgusting smell here. She actually apologized to the people next to her. "Sorry for the poop smell". Are you kidding me? I wanted to jump out of the plane. I had to hold my shirt over my nose for 3 hours. When we arrived at the airport, I thought surely she would RUN to the restroom and change her daughter ... nope... I saw her at baggage claim right away. My son is in 6th grade and it is his last year at elementary school. We were talking last night about school pictures and he and his sister started making silly faces and joking that they would do a silly face instead of smile this year. Weren't they shocked when I told them to do it! Their jaws dropped to the ground! School pics at our house have always turned out not-so-good... a weird smile, hair uncombed, eyes half-shut... you know..something that just isn't flattering, so I stuff one in the school album and throw the rest away. I take hundreds of pics of my kids every year, (don't we all) so not using school pics is not big deal to me.... so why not have fun! How COOL will it be in the school yearbook if my son has a really funny picture (on purpose this time!) I even wrote a note for him that said, "My son has permission not to smile for school pics, in fat he can make any face he wants". I made a note for my daughter too, but I don't think she will go thourgh with it... my son. Oh yeah. I can't wait to hear all about it this afternoon when I pick him up!

Finally a GOOD movie.... Here are my observations about Chicago thus far:

Women in Chicago dress up to go to Target. Tight dresses and strappy heels. Wow!
The ranch salad dressing in Chicago is nothing like the ranch dressing I am used to in the NW.
This city kind of smells. Every time I go outside it has a "not so fresh" smell.
City landscaping is beautiful. Flowers, flowers everywhere. I am very impressed.

More observations to come.

WTF? Well, they had free kittens and you know what happened next.

So, we bring home this tiny 5 week old kitten. Black. Really cute. My husband was really pissed off.

So, anyways, this morning I am combing my hair and this kitten is running all around the bathroom mewing her head off... she's never done that before. Then, in the middle of the floor, she takes a huge dump. WTF????!?!?!

Evidently, she doesn't like the new litter I bought last night.... it is a bit like sawdust. Very unlike the gravelly litter that I usually buy (because it is cheap). I bought this new stuff because it doesn't have the nasty cat litter plume of toxic dust that you inhale when changing the box. It is green. Not really the color green, but you know, environmentally gentle on the earth. You get it.

That little bitch is going to have to get used to it because:

A. I am never picking up cat shit off the floor again.
B. I am never inhaling cat litter dust again.
C. I will return her ass to the vet. Not just a vcr, but a huge, clunky, heavy vcr from the 70s. It weighs about 50 lbs. Evidently, one of the teachers was going to throw it out and asked if my son wanted it. Of course he said yes. It took two kids to help him get it on the bus. He was so pleased with himself as they approached my truck after getting off the bus. After he opened the truck door, he realized he had made a bad decision as I yelled, "What the hell are you doing?!?!?!" The buddies that helped him carry the vcr to my truck quickly disappeared.

You see, last month, this same child brought homea 1950's barrel vacuum from school. It is also, big, clunky and worthless. Recently I reviewed a bunch of "virtual world" sites for kids. It was a fun and interesting project. Today's new find is www.weeworld.com. I just finished making my character. I swear, tasks like personalizing a virtual character can take me hours. I have to have everything "just so".... I haven't explored anything besides the character yet, but I will post later on what I think.

Other sites I have reviewed:

MinyonWorld: www.minyonworld.com

Pop Tropica: www.poptropica.com

Webkinz: http://www.webkinz.com/

Club Penguin: http://www.clubpenguin.com/

Barbie Girls: http://www.barbiegirls.com/

Ty Girls: http://www.tygirlz.com/

My ePets: http://www.myepets.com/

PollyPocket: http://pollypocket.everythinggirl.com

EverythingGirl: http://www.everythinggirl.com

Build A Bear: http://ww.buildabearville.com

Webkinz is the only one that keeps my interest.

If I were kidnapped...

I listen to Mark and Brian every morning on the radio. A drunk (we suspect) driver ran off the road and into our yard sometime in the middle of the night. The tracks clearly show where he/she left the street and tried to get out of our yard two or three different ways ( and failed). Our property sits below the road, and their vehicle would not make it back up the hill, evident by the huge ruts they left in their attempts to flee. It was a small car, probably a Honda civic. They also left lovely tracks in the lawn, tore out 4 bushes and drove over both of my raised vegetable beds, breaking them. Who knows what they did to the irrigation. They missed a utility pole by about 6 inches. I have big boulders all around my yard and they missed those too. Too bad, it would have been nice had they bumped into one of those. I estimate the damage to be about $500 which is exactly the amount of my deductible. How crappy is that.

Ribbon Ring update

Just getting ready for the Ck convention. I can't believe how expensive it is to have a table at the convention. WOW! I am really anxious, excited and terrified at the same time.

It has been really hard to advertise my product. I don't have a big marketing budget... umm... well, I don't have any marketing budget. I took out a teensy-weesy ad in Creating Keepsakes & a couple of the other scrapbooking magazines with my family's vacation money. So, I am hoping to be able to repay that and then actually go on vacation one of these days.

Good news: Several stores have started carrying Ribon Ring. I have several stores in the US. Plus I have a store in the UK, Canada and Australia too. Yay!

If anyone would like a sample Ribbon Ring tag, please email me. Grammys. Tonys. Academy Awards.

I'm sure millions of dollars go into the production of these televised red-carpet events and for what? So entertainers can be recognized for their achievements. Wow.

There is something really pathetic about this concept. Aren't the entertainers rewarded with the millions of dollars they receive in their paycheck?

Why don't we have televised shows rewarding people who have made real achievements.. inventors, teachers, heroic acts, things of that nature... people who have made their community a better place. That's reality tv in a good way! I think you need to have someone really fun as a host, but seriously, let's start rewarding those who need recognizing. Real people who have made a difference.

Maybe Joe Fireman won't look as sexy in a $10,000 Armani gown and that will turn people off.
